Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Please visit the website for upcoming start dates.

Description: This Kenya expedition combines wildlife research with community work. Based in the Shimoni Archipelago, on the coastal border between Tanzania and Kenya, your time will be divided between the island Wasini, the Shimoni village and the satellite camps on the borders of national parks. You will take part in dolphin, turtle, and humpback whale studies, as well as primate research with Angolan Black and White Colobus monkeys in the coastal forest. You will also work on community development projects, teaching English and working on sustainable tourism developments, making this an extraordinarily varied volunteering opportunity.

How this program makes a difference?

GVI's Kenya expedition makes a difference in three ways; cetacean research, community development and Terrestrial ecology studies. Through environmental education and current wildlife monitoring studies, our work has been building capacity within the communities, assisting locals in developing sustainable tourism practices and protecting cetacean and primate species in the region.
