Description: Special project volunteers work on various specialized projects and require specific skills. These volunteers may work at a Habitat affiliate, national office or area office to support projects and programs in areas such as administration, finance, communication, construction management, program research, special events, resource development, and training. - Engage people in the international movement for simple, decent housing
- Enhance Habitat for Humanity organizations around the world
- Empower volunteers to have a meaningful experience while living abroad

Qualifications / Skills Needed: To apply for an International Volunteer Program position, you must be eighteen years or older. People with a variety of skills are welcomed from all around the world. As an international volunteer you need to be flexible and sensitive to multi-cultural environments, to research your country of assignment well before you arrive and to be willing to learn new ways of doing things. Some positions require that you be in excellent physical health to perform manual labor, sometimes at high altitudes.

Languages: English and Spanish

Cost Includes: The cost of participation varies from country to country. However, in all cases the international volunteer is required to pay for all costs associated with living abroad, including but not limited to international medical insurance (MEDEX), housing, food and travel to and from the host country. Typical Volunteer Projects: academic reinforcement, anthropology, community development, community organizing, economic development, grassroots organization, housing, human rights, volunteer management and volunteering

Typical Volunteer: As an international volunteer, you will have the powerful opportunity to educate yourself about poverty, housing needs and Habitat for Humanity's impact in a specific region. You will also gain valuable experience in a variety of areas, including cross-cultural communication, understanding of global issues and learning new ways of living. You will be able to share your professional expertise and stretch yourself as you apply your skills in a new context and from a new perspective. You may also learn or practice a foreign language. Most importantly, you will receive the sweet satisfaction of being part of the solution to the poverty housing crisis, working in partnership with Habitat homeowners, staff and volunteers and learning from the many gifts they all have to offer.

This Program is open to American, Australian, Canadian, European, Kiwi, South African and World Wide Participants. This Program is also open to Families, Couples and Individuals.

Hábitat para la Humanidad's Mission Statement: The International Volunteer Program is a new addition to Habitat for Humanity International that has been designed to engage people globally in our mission of eliminating poverty housing. Currently special project volunteers can work on projects and programs for an average term of 6 months at Habitat offices ranging from finance, specialized construction, communications and resource development to training, volunteer coordination and a variety of other areas. Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. The purpose and goal of Habitat for Humanity International is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses in partnership with families in need.

Hábitat para la Humanidad is a Christian based organization. We do not require our participants to be of the same faith. Our volunteers will not be involved in religious proselytizing.
