Description:
ARUDMO is a Non-Profit/Non-Governmental, Voluntary, Development Organization with programs in Ghana, Kenya, Togo, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin and South Africa. The goal of our programs is to promote sustainable action against chronic poverty by providing resources and information that empower families and communities by helping such communities help themselves. Our program activities generate income and improve the health and nutrition of participants and their families. It also empowers Civil Society to contribute in building healthy and vibrant nations across the continent by putting machinery in place for sustainable rural communities. The intention of these investments is to contribute to the socio-economic transformation of the continent, while nurturing emerging democracies across the continent. ARUDMO's program areas are particularly focused toward supporting and promoting the interests of marginalized communities, such as Youth, Women and Children. Women Empowerment is one priority that we laid much emphasis on.
Sustainable Rural Development: Africa's rural communities possess valuable assets. Prominent among them are hard-working people who understand and value the culture and environment of their native place. At the same time, they face significant challenges that include job loss; decline in personal income; the out-migration of young people; and continuing persistent poverty. ARUDMO's Rural Development program helps local people capitalize on their strengths and develop new networks between individuals, communities, and organizations. Together, they can create partnerships to restore the vision and vigor of rural communities.
Gifts In Kind Programs: ARUDMO partners with Gifts In Kind International, businesses and nonprofit organizations to provide quality products and services that improve lives in communities across African Continent.
Agric and Food Systems: For the nation's food system to function effectively, it must provide access to a safe and nutritious food supply for all segments of society. And to ensure continued food security, this same system must produce food in a manner that protects the environment, while adding economic and social value to rural and urban communities. ARUDMO's projects seek to achieve these and other goals as we help in empowering the rural communities. We also support relevant market and policy changes, and help communities in ways that support a healthy, viable, and sustainable food system.
Entrepreneurship Development: Most of the youth today depend mostly on the government for job opportunities on a limited resource which left most of them unemployed. ARUDMO promote Entrepreneurship Development to address the issue of unemployment and healthy nation.
Human Rights: ARUDMO defend and promote the rights of marginalized and disadvantaged communities by documenting violations and conducting civic education.
Democracy and Good Governance: ARUDMO promote political systems that embrace equality, the rule of law and good governance.
HIV/AIDS: The HIV/AIDS crisis in the region undermines economic development and stability. ARUDMO focuses its support in the area of HIV/AIDS policy at the national level, while also funding community-level projects targeting marginalized groups, specifically women and children. ARUDMO plays a special role in HIV/AIDS prevention education at the international, country and local level. With a distinctive mix of competencies in education, science, social science, culture and communication, ARUDMO has an interdisciplinary organizational and technical capacity that is particularly suited to working on prevention education in an effort to halt the spread of the disease.
ARUDMO promotes quality education through programmes, projects, and strategies that are gender-responsive, age-specific, culturally appropriate, human-rights based, and involve people living with HIV in all stages of the design and implementation.
ARUDMO's activities in HIV/AIDS Prevention Education:
* Taking a leadership role to ensure consensus on priorities and coordination of efforts within the UN system, the broader donor community, and among other key stakeholders.
* Mobilizing and strengthening national commitment and programmes on HIV/AIDS, and supporting comprehensive responses to HIV/AIDS through education.
* Alleviating the impact of HIV and AIDS on the education sector by providing a comprehensive response, through formal and non-formal education.
