Description: Ready, Willing...Enable! Inc., a newly established non-profit organization inspired by the Peace Corps, is seeking applicants for its first volunteer assignment to enrich the lives of disabled people living in the Commonwealth of Dominica, an island nation in the Caribbean. A total of 10 adults will be selected for each of the nine-day volunteer experiences from July 19-27th and July 26-August 3rd, 2008.

As Ready, Willing...Enable! volunteers, participants will spend 6-8 hours per day working directly with disabled youths to educate them about skills and hobbies that can improve the quality of their lives. This includes everything from life management skills such as operating a computer or cooking to pleasurable pursuits like guitar-playing. And while education is the foremost intent of Ready, Willing...Enable! excursions, cultural activities and free time are built into the schedule to ensure the volunteers are able to explore the native environment and enjoy some of their favorite pastimes, be that kayaking, hiking or beachcombing.

Qualifications / Skills Needed: Registration for the July 2008 excursions to the Commonwealth of Dominica is currently open. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis so interested parties are encouraged to submit their paperwork early. Individuals interested in enrolling must be 18 years of age (or 16 and participating with a parent or legal guardian) and complete a registration form, available online.

Cost in US$: The program fee is $1,200. The registration fee is $250. Participants are encouraged to fundraise their $1,200 program fee, since while doing so they will be creating awareness about persons with disabilities.

Cost Includes: Emergency evacuation services, Excursions, Food, Housing, In-country orientation/Training, In-country staff support, Language instruction, Living stipend, Medical insurance, Pre-departure orientation/Training, Travel while in host country, Written materials abroad and Written materials pre-departure

The program fee includes lodging, meals, travel medical insurance, ground transportation, language assistance, professional staff, informational documents, local phone calls, incoming international phone service, internet access, and local sight-seeing trips.
