Description:
Work in rural India & Nepal in the health sector with community health centers. Provide support for HIV patients and set up awareness camps with local NGO's. India is a fast developing country where financial inequalities are widespread and affect the daily lives of the people. It's a land where people come from abroad for having specialized surgeries and other medical treatments. Rich Indians have access to world-class healthcare whereas on the other hand a vast number of people are deprived of basic healthcare facilities, more so in poverty stricken rural areas. Even urban areas reflect the glaring gaps in access to healthcare in different strata's of society.
Volunteer support in the field of healthcare can be of tremendous value. They can work in hospitals, small clinics, old age homes, orphanages and shelter homes to assist the staff in the treatment of patients. They can educate and guide these disadvantaged people about sanitation, hygiene, nutrition and provide first aid to people with small injuries.
Students studying medicine, nurses and doctors are preferred for health programs because of the special skills required for the same.
India has the largest number of cases of HIV / AIDS in the world. It can be attributed to lack of education and abject poverty in certain areas of country. Volunteers can help various organizations engaged in spreading awareness about this gigantic problem. They can provide counseling, educate HIV/AIDS patients and assist other groups engaged in HIV related programs.
