No matter the location, it is always appreciated that you are willing to give your time, energy, and funds to teach in schools that are struggling with overcrowded classes and a lack of skilled teachers throughout the country of Ghana. As a volunteer, your work will greatly benefit local community members more than you ever thought possible.
GVN has volunteer teaching opportunities in local schools throughout Ghana, teaching a variety of subjects through our partner organization. Volunteers will have the opportunity to make a lasting difference in Ghananian communities through education while experiencing African culture and life.
The volunteer teaching opportunities are available in Primary and Secondary schools all over Ghana. However we can arrange for you to teach in a pre-school if that is your preference.

Qualifications / Skills Needed:
Volunteers for the Ghana Teaching Program must:
- be between 18 and 65 years of age
- be able to walk long distances (up to 1 hour continuously) and be able to tolerate heat
- be available for a minimum of four weeks
- be able to speak English fluently
- have a High School qualification to teach at primary level, and a college degree to teach at secondary level

The in-country fee (see our website for details) covers airport pickup, transport to placement, meals during placement, and supervision. Your accommodation is provided free by the school.
The other costs you will need to meet are your flights, visa, shots, travel insurance, departure tax and your bus trip back to the airport. You will need to budget for your other expenses like bottled water, personal costs, beverages and entertainment. If you are willing to live on a tight budget you can get by on USD 20 per week.
