Description:
Volunteer to coach soccer in Brazil! There can be no better place to volunteer on a soccer placement than Brazil - winners of the soccer world cup a record five times and known by locals simply as "the soccer country."
Many Brazilian children live for soccer and it is by far the favorite pastime of youngsters found playing in the streets. For some talented children soccer offers an escape from poverty, keeping them away from entering gangs or getting involved in drugs. It also gives them opportunities to develop pride and team skills and keeps them fit and healthy. Most of all it gives the children a chance to socialize and have some fun!
Coach Soccer to Children with Projects Abroad
On our soccer project in Brazil you will work at either local schools or soccer academies, or combine the two. All projects are based in Niteroi, just across the bay from Rio de Janeiro.
Volunteers coaching soccer at a local school will offer much needed help and become involved in teaching a variety of classes and age groups. Whether you are taking your own class or providing support to the local teacher, your help will be much appreciated by both the teachers and the students. The boys and girls have a great enthusiasm and an unlimited appetite for sports, especially when it is made accessible and fun. Volunteers teaching soccer in schools also have the opportunity to teach other types of sports depending on your interests.
Volunteers choosing to work at the soccer academy help coach soccer to a number of different age groups aged 10 to 12s, under 14s and under 17s. The abilities of the players varies, which provides you with a large amount of diversity in your work. You could spend a few hours per day on advanced soccer skills with older children and then monitor small team games for younger students.
Our soccer placements in Brazil provide an opportunity for young players to develop their basic skills and techniques with the hope that some may achieve the phenomenal success of Brazilian stars like Pele, Ronaldinho or Kaka!
Your Role Volunteering Abroad on a Soccer Project in Brazil:
During your time as a sports volunteer in Brazil, you will be responsible for the development of young soccer players' basic skills and techniques. You will help coordinate and plan coaching sessions to develop skills such as ball control, accurate passing, and keeping possession. Furthermore you will help your supervisor to referee games.
When you get to Brazil, you will be introduced to the students and your supervisor. Dont worry if you have little or no coaching experience; the staff here are dedicated to their programs and very open to volunteers, so will help you in anyway they can. As a foreigner, your very presence will help to make each sports lesson or training session fun which is vital to maintaining the interest and enthusiasm of the children.
Highlights:
Brazil has so many great attractions that it is difficult to know where to start. In the city of Rio de Janeiro alone there are a thousand different ways to entertain yourself and you will probably choose to spend your weekends here. In addition to the sights mentioned above, Rio is also home to one of the largest sports stadiums in the world, the Maracana. Whether you are a soccer fan or not, catching the atmosphere at a live game will be an unforgettable experience! The city also contains the world's largest urban forest; at 32 square kilometers the Tijuca Forest is a designated National Park, containing all manner of rare species.
Further away you can experience the beautiful beaches of Fernando de Noronha, the lively atmosphere of Salvadore and the raw power of the Iguazu Falls. No trip to Brazil would be complete without a trip to the Amazon, and you can use Brazil as a gateway to just about every other South American country.
All accommodation is organized, paid for and monitored by Projects Abroad. All project placements are regularly visited and checked. We require high standards of supervision and accommodation, which are verified before you arrive in Brazil.
This project offers the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened of backpackers could never hope to do.

Projects Abroad's Mission Statement: As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
