Description:
Experience the vibrant culture of Ecuador, and gain valuable medical experience! Live with a host family while volunteering in the medial field. Volunteers with this program will work in a local hospital or medical clinic in the Highlands of Ecuador, along the coast, or in the Galapagos Islands. You will get first-hand experience by working side by side with doctors and nurses in different areas of the hospital. Volunteers typically start in the emergency room, and then will have the ability to move on to other areas of the hospital like pediatrics, obstetrics, internal medicine and surgery. Depending on your Spanish level and experience, you can learn how to take vital signs, do minor suturing, remove stitches, take blood samples, etc. The minimum time commitment to this project is 4 weeks, as you will likely spend at least two weeks adjusting to the hospital, becoming comfortable with your Spanish skills, and allowing the local Ecuadorian doctors and nurses the time to get to know you. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the medical field, while exploring a new country and having fun!
