Description:
Since the start of this intensive programme, we have noted a marked increase in the Lions awareness of their natural surroundings, as well as an improvement in their hunting skills. The larger cubs are now able to take down smaller game species whilst out on walks, and these abilities are being enhanced each day whilst under the supervision of volunteers. These are invaluable discoveries, which have earned us further support for our world first endeavours.
On the other hand, Hwange is legendary for its wonderful array of wildlife and massive herds of elephant and buffalo especially in the drier winter months. Hwange is one of Africa's oldest and most noble Parks, having recently celebrated 80 years of service to conservation and wildlife preservation.
Our Zimbabwe volunteer projects are the epicentre of our Lion breeding, rehabilitation and release program. The lion program headquarters is in Antelope park and we also have a lion release program in Victoria Falls. These two programs along with the neighbouring Zambia lion project are some of the most cutting edge programs with regards to improving the lion population in Africa.
Join our team of professional guides and other dedicated volunteers, gain a deeper understanding of the King of Beasts and assist us in gathering vital information that will facilitate their eventual release. You will also have access to the most remote areas of one of Africa's premier game reserves and its surrounding conservation areas, which are home to the Big 5, including herds of elephant, buffalo, plains-game, lion and leopard. You will be helping to protect and conserve one of Africa's few remaining wildlife sanctuaries.
*Bulawayo Wildlife Rescue Sanctuary
Get up-close and personal with a host of animals in one of Zimbabwes oldest wildlife sanctuaries. Established in 1973, the centre was established to offer a home and help for orphaned, abandoned and sick wild animals, as well as relocating animals that are reported to be causing a nuisance and in danger of getting shot by farmers or communities. From lions and leopards to monkeys, antelope and birds, wherever possible the animals are rehabilitated and returned to the wild. When safe release into their natural habitat is not possible, then the animals are cared for and used for educational purposes, zoological study or in the case of endangered species, introduced to breeding programmes.
*Antelope Park Lion Breeding & Rehabilitation Project in Zimbabwe
Volunteer in Zimbabwe on a world first lion breeding and rehabilitation project, supported by some of the worlds leading ecologists in the field. We invite you to walk with African Lions, to be involved in our in-depth research and data-collection activities and to help rehabilitate lions back into their natural environment. Spending time with the lions in the wild each day is an essential part of the cubs upbringing. If the cubs are to be successfully released it is important that they spend time out in a natural environment. They need to adapt to it, learn from it, understand, observe, feel and smell the wild.
*Victoria Falls Lion Rehabilitation Project
See the real Africa by volunteering in Zimbabwe on our lion rehabilitation project in Victoria Falls. You will have the chance to walk alongside lions, work on the worlds leading program for the release of lions back into the wild and engage with conservation - a growing subject of interest both in terms of the preservation of and education to local children. You will also be able to undertake research into lion behavior and ecology. During your time in the park, you will have the opportunity to go in search of Africa's big game, including elephants, buffaloes, lions, antelopes and badgers!
Highlights:
*Bungee jump at Victoria Falls
With Victoria Falls as a backdrop, this is arguably the best bungee jump in the world, with a 111 metre plummet towards the Zambezi River. The Victoria Falls Bungee jump has a 100% safety record - and is available 365 days per year. Challenge the limits of the mind and test the edge of fear by leaping off the impressive bridge, with the Falls behind and the mighty Zambezi below.
*Zambezi White Water Rafting
Acclaimed as the wildest one-day whitewater run in the World, the Zambezi River is also recognized by rafting and kayaking enthusiasts as one of the top ten paddling rivers on the planet!
*Fresh Water Fishing
Zimbabwe offers excellent freshwater fishing, the best locations being Lake Kariba (famous for its tigerfish), the Zambezi River above the Victoria Falls (known for its giant catfish), the streams of the Eastern Highlands and the many lakes.
