Description:
The school has the purpose of educating blind children who have difficulties accessing a proper education and opportunities for personal development. The school's mission is to ultimately enable its pupils to integrate into society and be eligible for employment. Most of the children sleep in the boarding school from Monday to Friday. The school not only receives kids from Santiago but also from other regions of the country. In many parts of Chile there are no specialist educational services for the blind and visually impaired.
Highlights:
Situated in the heart of the Chilean capital, Santiago, the school provides a rounded, highly personalized education for blind and visually impaired children. The children board at the school from Monday to Friday in gender-segregated dorms. Many are completely blind. Some have other associated difficulties and are challenging to communicate with. The main age range is 1-12, although there are some older teenagers learning specific skills for employment.
