Description:
This position is at a small orphanage that houses 29 children. The children are not orphans, strictly speaking, but come from exceptionally poor and disadvantaged families in the district, 25 minutes East of Siem Reap. Teachers will focus on providing booster education as these children, while now enrolled at school, have mostly missed out on much schooling. The class is small, around 20, and a lot of the work is one on one. Creative skills (drawing, painting and music) are especially encouraged to foster the thinking skills and creativity of these enjoyable, enthusiastic students.
Highlights:
A common comment from volunteers, anywhere in Cambodia, is how enthusiastic the children are. They come to the classroom without any "attitude" and they are here to learn. They are good humoured, attention seeking (like children anywhere) and you almost totally forget their impoverished background as you get to know each student.
